
To commemorate the centennial year of Alfred Schutz this 46-minute video is designed to attract and inspire students to study his work.
Simplified and illustrated sketches of key notions are presented and intertwined with the main events of Schutz's life in Austria before World War II and in the United States thereafter.
The key notions presented include "subjective meaning," "the structure of the social world," "multiple realities," "ideal types," "methodology," "racial and ethnic groups," and "equality of opportunity."
Audio recordings of Alfred Schutz and others as well as photos and scenes from home movies are included. Made available by the Schutz family, they provide a rare, personal insight into the life of Alfred Schutz and the influences the helped shape his thoughts and writings.
The video documentary is written and narrated by Lester Embree, Dietrich Eminent Scholar in Philosophy, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton and President of the Center for Advanced Research in Phenomenology, Inc.
