THE SECOND SEX: 50 YEARS ON

ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS THE SECOND SEX: 50 YEARS ON UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA HOBART 31st JULY 1999

This one day conference is being held at the School of Fine Art at the university of Tasmania to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of Simone de Beauvoir's The Second Sex.

It seems like a very apppropriate time to focus on the enormous influence the book has had, and to discuss recent reassessments of Beauvoir's work in general.

Presentations may be informal discussions of The Second Sex or papers on diverse aspects of Beauvoir's work. Format can be either 40 min or 20 min.

Deadline for papers is Friday 25th June.

The conference will be held in conjunction with an art exhibition celebrating themes connected to The Second Sex and a documentary about Beauvoir will be shown.
